As many communities may be aware, the City has been working on changing a few of the rules for secondary suites contained in the Land Use Bylaw. City Council approved these ammendments (with some modifications) at their May 16, 2016 meeting (you can see the Federation's previous update on these ammendments at https://calgarycommunities.com/m-2016-004-secondary-suite-ammendments/). In summary, the changes include an increased floor area maximum for Secondary Suites if above grade or partially above grade (now 100 m2), suites being allowed on 7.5m wide lots, provided it is a corner or laned parcel with three or more parking stalls provided, and an additional rule to prevent condominium subdivisions of suites.
The City of Calgary has more detail on these ammendments as approved at http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Pages/Current-studies-and-ongoing-activities/Secondary-Suite-proposed-amendments-to-the-Land-Use–Bylaw.aspx.
