The planning updates will slow down over the summer, as we focus on putting together workshops and new resources for the fall. Some things to look forward to:
- Engagement Toolkit/conference– We are currently creating an engagement toolkit for community associations! This toolkit will include tools on how to engage for input, belonging, and to inform. Look for its release at the "engagement party" at the October conference!
- Planning Committee Guide– based on your feedback, we're working on a major overhaul of this guide over the summer to make it more useful and relevant to communtiy association planning committees and volunteers. Look for it in early October.
- The ever-popular Partners in Planning workshops will start up again in the fall- if you missed last year's core courses on the Basics, The Land Use Bylaw, or the Subdivision and Development Appeals Board, watch for them in our workshop guide in September. We're also working with the City on some new workshops, and modifying the classics.
- We're also reworking our planning workshops at the Federation based on community feedback.
- For our next Community Planning Exchange event (happening on Saturday, November 5 if you like to plan ahead!), we are talking about Urban Design and Walkability. For those unfamiliar with our CPE events, we bring together communities to talk about trending and important planning topics to share experiences, learn from others, and hear from experts in the field. There's also free lunch and lots of time to meet with other community planning volunteers.
Of course the planning work doesn't stop over the summer- things to pay attention to include:
- Developed Areas Guidebook– the City will be going to council with the guidelines and the MDP amendments in October. In the meantime, the City will be attending the Greenline workshops with their draft guidelines.
- Main Streets– the City's main streets team's interim report goes to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Development on July 22. Plans and engagement for focus communities will begin in the Fall.
- Green Line workshops- Green line workshops will continue through the summer, specifically in June with session on the station area plans (64th ave & Ramsay/Inglewood).
- As always, you can get ahold of us at Dan- planning@calgarycommunities.com or Carrie- engageinplanning@calgarycommunties.com.
Enjoy your summer!
